Use case 2, apply and get recognition, focuses on enrolling in a learning opportunity and creating an online learning agreement. Getting recognition involves assessing the learner’s previous credentials, which is essential for admission decisions. This use case aims to simplify credit recognition and cross-institutional enrolment. It emphasises smooth data exchange to support all types of learner mobility and academic continuity.
This use case is a step further in the learner journey from the discovery use case. After identifying the most relevant learning opportunities in a catalogue, learners apply to selected opportunities. This second use case has two main steps. First, there is the application, which involves identity validation. Then, there is the evaluation of the application. This step may require some necessary validation and signing an agreement.
Interoperability Essential
Definition: The institution implements one of the following APIs supporting data exchange for applications and enrolment:
- Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) APIs for Learning Agreements and Nominations, in one of the versions still supported by the EWP network;
- Emrex network APIs;
- OOAPI POST endpoints for programme and course associations.
Rationale:
Currently, there is no single dominant standard or conversion layer (as for UC1) covering UC2. Hence the essential proposes that HEIs might use one of three existing solutions:
- EWP is widely used for Erasmus+ mobilities. While in principle usable for any type of mobilities, this has been explored to a limited extent.
- The Emrex network is tested for all kinds of student record exchange and mobility scenarios, but has limited geographic coverage.
- OOAPI supports a flow for enrolment/application, but it is not as widely used in practice as its other features.
