Mexico’s higher education sector continues to advance its internationalization agenda thanks to the efforts of the Erasmus+ National Focal Point (ENFP), hosted by the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES). Under the leadership of César Eduardo Gutiérrez and Brenda Elizabeth Galaviz Aragón, the ENFP has been playing a strategic role in connecting Mexican Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) with the European Union’s flagship programme for education, training, youth, and sport—Erasmus+.
🛠️ Building Capacity Through Training
One of the most impactful recent initiatives is the Training Workshop on International Project Formulation and Management with a Focus on the Erasmus+ Programme, which is taking place from May 13th to 16th, 2025, at ANUIES’ headquarters in Mexico City.
This in-person workshop, fully funded by ANUIES, is welcoming around 60 to 65 professionals from universities and HEIs across the country. Participants include key personnel from international offices, academic departments, and research units—precisely those positioned to foster and manage international cooperation projects.
🎯 A Strategic Vision for Internationalization
The workshop is more than just a training event. It represents a long-term strategic investment in the institutional and human capacities of Mexican HEIs. By focusing on project design, planning, and management, with an emphasis on Erasmus+ opportunities, the event supports institutions in:
- Diversifying their international partnerships
- Gaining access to European and global funding opportunities
- Enhancing their project development and implementation skills
- Strengthening their presence and competitiveness in the global higher education landscape
This initiative aligns with both national and international strategies aimed at building sustainable, high-impact internationalization efforts.
🌐 Beyond Borders: The Role of the ENFP
As part of the broader Erasmus+ network, the ENFP in Mexico actively supports universities in understanding, accessing, and succeeding in the programme. The role of César Eduardo Gutiérrez and Brenda Elizabeth Galaviz Aragón has been crucial in creating bridges between Mexico and Europe, advising institutions, and facilitating knowledge exchange.
Through events like this training, webinars, strategic meetings, and individual support to HEIs, the ENFP is fostering a community of practice around international cooperation and capacity building.
🇪🇺 Erasmus+ in Mexico: A Gateway to Europe and Beyond
Thanks to the work of ANUIES and the Erasmus+ National Focal Point, Mexican institutions are increasingly empowered to take full advantage of the Erasmus+ programme. These efforts not only open new educational and research opportunities for students, faculty, and staff but also contribute to Mexico’s visibility and influence in the international academic arena.
