The Erasmus+ National Focal Point (ENFP) in Mexico continues to play a pivotal role in fostering international academic collaboration and deepening ties between Mexican and European institutions. A significant milestone in this ongoing effort was marked on June 9, 2025, during a strategic working meeting with the Delegation of the European Union to Mexico.
The meeting, led by César Eduardo Gutiérrez Jurado, ENFP to Mexico, aimed to evaluate the outcomes of the recent Training Workshop on International Project Formulation and Management, which had a specific focus on the Erasmus+ Programme. Building on the momentum of that successful workshop, the meeting also served to shape a forward-looking agenda for the second half of 2025.
Key Actions to Promote Erasmus+ in Mexico
Among the most impactful outcomes of this dialogue was the agreement to organize a virtual session to promote the Jean Monnet Programme. This initiative will target Mexican higher education institutions and aims to increase their participation in activities that support teaching and research in the field of European Union studies.
Additionally, the ENFP is coordinating efforts to host a bilateral meeting in November 2025, in the context of the upcoming Europosgrados Fair. This meeting will bring together European universities participating in the fair and Mexican higher education institutions, with the goal of exploring new channels of academic collaboration, exchange, and project development.
Strategic Diplomacy for Greater Cooperation
In a visionary move to enhance coordination and unlock new opportunities, César Eduardo Gutiérrez proposed arranging a meeting with the cooperation offices of the embassies of EU member states accredited in Mexico. With the support of the EU Delegation, this initiative will facilitate dialogue around Erasmus+ and other bilateral cooperation mechanisms, while strengthening the links between Mexican universities and European diplomatic missions.
A Collaborative Vision
The meeting gathered key actors in the education and international cooperation landscape, including Cristina Martínez Castellanos, representative for Education and Culture at the EU Delegation in Mexico, and Brenda Elizabeth Galaviz Aragón, Auxiliar ENFP to Mexico. Together, they reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding academic mobility, institutional partnerships, and capacity-building under the Erasmus+ Programme.
Through initiatives like these, the Erasmus+ National Focal Point in Mexico is not only broadening awareness of the programme but also actively shaping the future of international higher education cooperation between Mexico and Europe.
