SENESCYT and CEDIA, the ENFP for Ecuador

SENESCYT (Secretaría de Educación Superior, Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación) and CEDIA (Corporación Ecuatoriana para el Desarrollo de la Investigación y la Academia) serve as the Erasmus+ National Focal Points (ENFP) for Ecuador, playing a vital role in fostering international academic cooperation and development. As ENFPs, they act as key liaisons between Ecuadorian institutions and the European Union, promoting opportunities like Erasmus+ for mobility, capacity building, and collaborative projects. Through their leadership, SENESCYT and CEDIA have been instrumental in connecting Ecuadorian universities and researchers with global networks, enhancing access to funding, training, and resources. Their commitment to advancing higher education, science, and technology has positioned Ecuador as an active participant in the international academic community.

Campus Global: A Congress Driving International Cooperation in Science, Technology, and Innovation

The 1st Congress on International Cooperation for Science, Technology, and Innovation – Campus Global, held on September 3 and 4, 2024, at the Universidad de Las Américas in Quito, Ecuador, marked a milestone in strengthening the country’s scientific and academic ecosystem. Organized by CEDIA and SENESCYT, the event brought together 120 participants from 32 universities and institutes across Ecuador for two intensive days of idea-sharing, learning, and building strategic alliances.

International Cooperation: Key to Academic and Scientific Development

Focusing on opportunities offered by the European Union through programs like Horizon Europe and Erasmus+, the Congress emphasized the role of international cooperation as a driving force for scientific and technological progress. Participants—including academics, researchers, university authorities, and students—explored new forms of collaboration and learned about various funding avenues available to Ecuadorian institutions.

Conferences and Practical Workshops: Bridging Knowledge and Action

The event featured keynote addresses by experts and five hands-on workshops designed to guide attendees in maximizing the tools and resources offered by EU cooperation programs. These workshops covered:

  • Capacity Building in Higher Education: Strategies to strengthen higher education through international partnerships.
  • Erasmus Joint Masters: Joint master's programs fostering academic mobility and excellence.
  • International Credit Mobility: Facilitating international academic and student exchanges.
  • Horizon Europe: A guide to participating in Europe’s largest research and innovation program.
  • Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: Opportunities for researchers and students engaged in impactful global research.

Inspiring Guest Speakers

The Congress welcomed two distinguished guests:

  • Alejandro Quinteros, Erasmus+ National Focal Point for Uruguay, who shared his insights on implementing successful projects.

  • Dr. Daniel Uriel Ventura Cáceres, Regional Project Manager for the ENFP initiative, who highlighted the pivotal role of National Focal Points in Latin America and the Caribbean in fostering regional integration into global initiatives.

A Promising Future for Science and Technology in Ecuador

Campus Global showcased not only the potential of international cooperation but also Ecuador’s commitment to innovation and progress. This inaugural event sets a precedent for future editions, which will continue to enhance Ecuadorian institutions’ active participation in the global scientific landscape.

Through initiatives like this, Ecuador is taking confident steps toward building a robust and competitive ecosystem in science, technology, and innovation, opening new doors for researchers, academics, and students alike.
