Ana Teresa Vargas de Alvarado, Director of the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT), and Ana Yolanda Arévalo Santos, Institutional Coordinator and Cooperators of the Presidency of the Republic of El Salvador, have been instrumental in promoting Erasmus+ programs across El Salvador. As Erasmus+ National Focal Points (ENFPs) of El Salvador, they have undertaken a series of impactful activities aimed at reaching potential applicants and increasing awareness about the program’s life-changing opportunities.
Bringing Erasmus+ to the Forefront
One of their key strategies has been to participate in university and college fairs to directly engage with students. These events allow for meaningful interactions with young Salvadorans, providing them with the information and guidance needed to explore higher education opportunities abroad through Erasmus+.

Among their notable initiatives, the Erasmus+ program was featured prominently at the Feria de Becas “Preparando tu Futuro 2024” organized by the Agencia de El Salvador para la Cooperación Internacional (ESCO).
This scholarship fair was designed to showcase international study opportunities offered by various cooperating partners, including the European Union. The primary goals of the event were:
- To raise awareness about the Erasmus+ scholarships as a pathway to academic and personal growth.
- To strengthen El Salvador’s human capital by connecting talented youth with international study programs.
- To provide step-by-step guidance on the application process, including tips for preparing documentation to meet eligibility criteria.
The event attracted numerous students eager to learn about Erasmus+, underscoring the growing interest among Salvadoran youth in pursuing higher education abroad.
Strengthening the Network
In addition to attending fairs, Ana Teresa and Ana Yolanda have focused on fostering partnerships with local institutions to ensure that Erasmus+ opportunities reach even more students. Their collaborative approach emphasizes building bridges between Salvadoran academic institutions and the European Union, creating a sustainable framework for future engagement.
A Vision for the Future
By leveraging initiatives like the “Preparando tu Futuro 2024” fair and other outreach efforts, Ana Teresa Vargas de Alvarado and Ana Yolanda Arévalo Santos continue to make strides in connecting Salvadoran students with global opportunities.
