As part of the celebrations for Europe Month 2025, the Erasmus+ National Focal Points (ENFPs) of Ecuador, Joselyn Goyes from SENESCYT and Gabriela Cáceres from CEDIA, played a key role in showcasing European academic opportunities to local communities during the vibrant CulturSierra Festival. Held from May 14 to 18 in the Andean cities of Riobamba and Alausí, this cultural event was organized by EUNIC Cluster Ecuador, in collaboration with the embassies of the European Union, Spain, and Italy, as well as the cultural and technical attachés from Germany, Hungary, and France.
A major highlight of the festival was the conference titled “Opportunities for Study and Erasmus+ Master’s Scholarships”, where Ecuador’s Erasmus+ Focal Points took center stage. Representing SENESCYT (Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation), Joselyn Goyes, and representing CEDIA (Ecuadorian Corporation for the Development of Research and Academia), Gabriela Cáceres, jointly presented the Erasmus+ programme and its academic mobility opportunities to a diverse local audience.
The session provided valuable insights into the core components of Erasmus+, and explained the specific actions SENESCYT and CEDIA are implementing to promote access to international education. By highlighting success stories and practical pathways for students and academics, the conference served as a powerful platform to raise awareness and encourage participation in Erasmus+ from Ecuadorian institutions and individuals alike.
The event was graced by the presence of the European Union Ambassador to Ecuador, Jekaterina Dorodnova, the Mayor of Riobamba, John Vinueza Salinas, and students from local universities. Virtual contributions from the embassies of Italy, Hungary, Spain, and France further emphasized the strong commitment of Europe to academic and cultural cooperation with Ecuador.
This collaboration between the ENFPs of Ecuador and European partners reflects the strength of bi-regional ties and the shared vision of making international academic mobility more accessible to all. Through events like the CulturSierra Festival, the Erasmus+ programme continues to inspire and open doors for a new generation of Ecuadorian students and scholars.
