Promoting International Education Opportunities

(JAN, 2025) In 2024, Davin Jaggesar, the Erasmus+ National Focal Point (ENFP) for Trinidad and Tobago, demonstrated exceptional dedication to promoting the Erasmus+ program. Through his innovative outreach and strategic collaboration, he successfully increased awareness about Erasmus+ opportunities for students, researchers, and institutions in his country.

Davin’s efforts aligned with Erasmus+’s overarching goal of fostering academic mobility, collaboration, and capacity building across the globe. Below, we highlight one of his key activities from 2024.

Building Bridges: A Landmark Meeting with the EU Ambassador and the University of the West Indies

In November 2024, Davin orchestrated a pivotal meeting with the EU Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago and the Pro Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs of the University of the West Indies (UWI). This meeting was a testament to Davin’s commitment to strengthening partnerships between European institutions and UWI, one of the Caribbean’s most prestigious higher education institutions.

The discussions focused on:

  1. Expanding Erasmus+ Participation:
The meeting explored opportunities to increase UWI’s involvement in Erasmus+ projects, including mobility programs for students and staff, strategic partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives tailored to the Caribbean context.
  2. Raising Awareness:
Davin highlighted the need for enhanced communication strategies to inform more students and faculty members about the benefits of Erasmus+. He emphasized the program’s role in equipping participants with global perspectives and advanced skills.
  3. Fostering Collaboration:
The EU Ambassador expressed strong support for strengthening ties between UWI and European institutions. The discussion underscored the importance of Erasmus+ as a tool for deepening academic and cultural exchange.

This meeting set the stage for greater institutional engagement in 2025, with the potential for UWI to spearhead new Erasmus+ projects in collaboration with its European counterparts.
