In Trinidad & Tobago, the vision of connecting local talent with international opportunities is being brought to life by Davin Jagessar, the Erasmus+ National Focal Point (NFP). With a strong commitment to educational development and international cooperation, Davin is working closely with key institutions to promote the Erasmus+ Programme and ensure that more Trinidadians and Tobagonians benefit from the opportunities it offers.

A New Chapter in Cooperation: Meeting with the Trinidad & Tobago Red Cross

One of Davin’s recent initiatives reflects his focus on strategic partnerships and vocational education development. In a virtual meeting with the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Federation, Davin, along with representatives from the European Union Delegation, explored collaborative opportunities under the Erasmus+ framework.

The Red Cross, with its strong focus on vocational education and training, expressed particular interest in Capacity Building in the Field of Vocational Education and Training (CBVET)—a growing Erasmus+ action aimed at improving vocational training systems and equipping learners with practical, job-ready skills.

This meeting marked an important step in expanding Erasmus+ beyond traditional academic routes, paving the way for more inclusive and skill-oriented international cooperation.

Expanding Awareness and Engagement

As the National Focal Point, Davin is deeply involved in promoting Erasmus+ at all levels—from students and educators to NGOs and vocational institutions. His role is not just to inform but to activate interest, identify potential partnerships, and help local organizations understand how they can participate in EU-funded programs.

By engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including civil society organizations like the Red Cross, Davin is ensuring that the Erasmus+ programme reaches a wider audience, including those in non-traditional education and training pathways.

Looking Forward

Davin’s efforts are laying the groundwork for stronger collaboration between Trinidad & Tobago and European institutions. His outreach is expanding the scope of Erasmus+ in the Caribbean, especially in areas like capacity building, vocational training, and adult education.

As more organizations like the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross show interest in Erasmus+, the impact of Davin’s work is already becoming visible: more institutions are learning how to access EU opportunities, more learners are dreaming bigger, and the country is becoming more integrated into the global education community.

“It’s about more than sending students abroad,” Davin says. “It’s about building networks, growing institutions, and creating lasting change through education and collaboration.”

Thanks to leaders like Davin Jagessar, the Erasmus+ programme is becoming an increasingly powerful tool for educational transformation in Trinidad & Tobago.
