Conference report, 27-28 May 2024, Brussels
The year 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the Erasmus Mundus programme, a pioneering initiative designed to jointly deliver higher education Master’s programmes with institutions across the globe. On this occasion, an anniversary conference “Beyond Borders and Boundaries: 20 years of Erasmus Mundus” was held on 27 and 28 May 2024 in Brussels, Belgium.
This conference brought together more than 700 participants (326 onsite and 390 online) representing students, alumni, higher education institutions, policy makers and stakeholder organisations from Europe and beyond to celebrate Erasmus Mundus’ achievements and to reflect on the way forward. The first conference day focused on exploring, showcasing and celebrating the in-depth and multilayered impact of the Erasmus Mundus programme on individuals, higher education institutions and national higher education systems in Europe and around the world. The second day of the conference focused on future pathways for the Erasmus Mundus programme, building on its long-standing success.
This document provides a concise summary of the event, with a focus on the forward-looking discussions and outlines the key recommendations from the conference participants. These insights feed into a broader mid-term evaluation of the current Erasmus+ programme (2021-2027) and its different actions, notably Erasmus Mundus. They also contribute to discussions on the next generation of the Erasmus+ programme, ensuring that the innovative spirit and considerable impact of Erasmus Mundus are both secured and further enhanced.
