On May 9th, in celebration of Europe Day, Costa Rica took part in the festivities with a meaningful event that highlighted the country’s commitment to educational internationalization. Jorge Umaña Vargas, Head of the Scholarship Office and current Erasmus+ National Focal Point (ENFP), led a special experience-sharing session in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to Costa Rica.

The event brought together representatives from public universities and other key educational institutions across the country. It created an open space for dialogue about the opportunities, lessons learned, and impact of participating in the Erasmus+ programme. Participants exchanged valuable insights and discussed how to further strengthen Costa Rica's engagement with one of the EU’s flagship programmes for education, training, youth, and sport.

🎓 "Our goal is for more educational stakeholders in Costa Rica—from universities and technical institutes to NGOs and training centers—to discover and benefit from the transformative opportunities that Erasmus+ offers," said Jorge Umaña during the event.

As the National Focal Point, Mr. Umaña has played a pivotal role in promoting Erasmus+ across the country, building bridges between Costa Rican institutions and their European counterparts. This latest activity is part of a broader strategy to position Costa Rica as a key partner in international cooperation for education and youth development, in alignment with the European Union’s priorities in Latin America.

🌍✨ The event not only strengthened institutional ties but also reaffirmed a shared commitment to more inclusive, equitable, and globally connected education.
