In Uruguay, international education is taking meaningful strides forward thanks to the tireless efforts of Alejandro Quinteros, the Erasmus+ National Focal Point. His leadership in promoting the Erasmus+ Programme has been pivotal in opening doors for Uruguayan students, faculty, and academic professionals to access one of the world’s most impactful educational mobility and cooperation frameworks.

Work for Educational Exchange

Alejandro Quinteros has positioned Erasmus+ as a dynamic tool for academic and cultural enrichment across Uruguay. His role involves not just representation, but also strategic coordination, outreach, and awareness-building, especially among youth and academic institutions in regions beyond the capital.

One of the most significant outreach efforts under his coordination took place in October 2023, during a series of educational talks organized by the Agencia Uruguaya de Cooperación Internacional (AUCI) across Maldonado. These sessions exemplified Alejandro’s commitment to making Erasmus+ accessible and well-understood throughout the country.

Erasmus+ on Tour: Maldonado Education Sessions (October 17–18, 2023)

Alejandro Quinteros played a central role in the multi-institutional educational fair held in Maldonado, which brought together a wide range of international and national educational programs, including:

  • Embassies of Canada and France
  • EducationUSA
  • DAAD (Germany)
  • SEGIB
  • Fundación Chamangá
  • AUCI Scholarships
  • Erasmus+ Programme

The Erasmus+ information sessions took place in several prominent educational institutions:

  • Centro Regional de Profesores del Este (CERP)
  • Centro Universitario Regional del Este (CURE - Universidad de la República)
  • Universidad Claeh (Punta del Este campus)
  • Universidad Católica del Uruguay (UCU)

These events spanned two days, October 17 and 18, and were held in various formats—in-person and virtual—to maximize accessibility. Students from institutions like Instituto de Formación Docente (IFD) de Maldonado actively participated, demonstrating high levels of engagement and curiosity.

Promoting Erasmus+: Beyond Just Scholarships

During the talks, Alejandro presented a broad overview of the opportunities offered by the program. The sessions highlighted:

  • Mobility for students and staff (both academic and administrative)
  • Joint master’s degrees
  • Language courses
  • Research and innovation cooperation
  • Best practice exchange between European and Uruguayan institutions

Students responded with enthusiasm and curiosity, asking insightful questions about Erasmus+ modalities, eligibility, funding, and future career benefits. Their participation confirmed a growing interest in international mobility and global academic collaboration.

Looking Ahead

Alejandro Quinteros continues to work hand in hand with AUCI, universities, and the European Union Delegation to broaden the reach of Erasmus+ across Uruguay. His efforts are making it possible for more Uruguayans to envision themselves as global citizens—studying, researching, and innovating in partnership with peers from across Europe.

As interest grows and more institutions join the Erasmus+ framework, Alejandro’s leadership ensures that Uruguay remains not just a beneficiary of global education opportunities, but an active contributor to the international academic community.
