Ecuador continues to strengthen its presence on the global education stage thanks to the dedicated efforts of its Erasmus+ National Focal Points (ENFPs)Joselyn Goyes, Director of Planning and Monitoring at the Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (SENESCYT), and Gabriela Cáceres, Coordinator of Funds and Scholarships at the Ecuadorian Corporation for the Development of Research and Academia (CEDIA).

Both leaders have played a vital role in promoting the Erasmus+ programme in Ecuador and in forging strategic alliances with European institutions. Their work is not only expanding opportunities for Ecuadorian students and researchers, but also reinforcing institutional capacities across the country’s higher education landscape.

March 2025: A Strategic Coordination Meeting

On March 25, 2025, a key coordination meeting was held between Ecuador’s Erasmus+ focal points and the Delegation of the European Union to Ecuador. The purpose was to enhance collaboration and refine the national strategy for outreach, training, and network development to increase Ecuador’s participation in the Erasmus+ programme.

This meeting allowed stakeholders to:

  • Review planned dissemination and training activities for the upcoming year.
  • Discuss strategies to engage more Ecuadorian institutions, especially technical and technological institutes.
  • Strengthen inter-institutional partnerships to support inclusive, diversified participation.

Supporting Vocational Education and Training (VET)

A significant outcome of the meeting was the shared commitment to bolster participation in the Erasmus+ Capacity Building for Vocational Education and Training (CB VET) action. Joselyn and Gabriela emphasized the importance of ensuring that technical and technological institutions are not left behind, and pledged to provide targeted support to guide them through the application and project development process.

The European Union Delegation also reaffirmed its support for the focal points' initiatives and agreed to co-organize several events to promote Erasmus+ opportunities across the country.

A Shared Vision for Growth and Inclusion

The coordination between SENESCYT, CEDIA, and the EU Delegation reflects a shared commitment to international cooperation, academic excellence, and inclusive education. Through the leadership of Joselyn Goyes and Gabriela Cáceres, Ecuador is not only increasing its participation in Erasmus+ — it is also strengthening its ties with Europe in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.

As Ecuador continues to position itself as a regional leader in international education, the efforts of its Erasmus+ focal points will remain central to driving impact and creating lasting connections between institutions and individuals on both sides of the Atlantic.
