Strengthening Mexico-France Cooperation: Erasmus+ Promotion at the French Embassy in Mexico

On December 6, 2024, César Eduardo Gutiérrez, the Erasmus+ National Focal Point (ENFP) for Mexico, took part in a high-level meeting at the French Embassy in Mexico. The event was held within the framework of a major seminar organized by the Embassy of France for the Cultural Cooperation Advisors of French embassies in Latin America, in collaboration with the French Ministries of Higher Education and Research (MESR) and of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE).

A Strategic Dialogue on Higher Education Cooperation

The meeting, which took place from 15:00 to 16:15, provided a platform to strengthen academic collaboration between Mexico and France. The discussions focused on key areas such as international mobility, joint research projects, and institutional cooperation within the Erasmus+ framework. The distinguished French delegation included:

  • Christophe Dessaux, Director of the Department of International Relations, MESR
  • Laurent Toulouse, Deputy Director of Higher Education and Research, MEAE
  • Lucile Normand, Subdirectorate of Higher Education and Research, MEAE
  • Béatrice Khaiat, Deputy Director, Campus France
  • Aude Chanson, Head of Americas Service, Campus France
  • Representatives from the French Embassy in Mexico

During the session, César Eduardo Gutiérrez highlighted Mexico's commitment to fostering academic mobility and strengthening collaboration through Erasmus+. The following themes were explored:

  • Presentation of ANUIES (National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions) and its priority projects: The meeting provided an opportunity to align ANUIES’ initiatives with Erasmus+ priorities and to identify synergies with French institutions.
  • Strategic objectives of the MESR and MEAE in international cooperation: The French delegation shared their vision for deepening ties with Mexico and expanding joint educational programs.
  • Current and potential Mexico-France cooperation projects: The dialogue focused on enhancing existing academic exchanges and fostering new collaborative programs.

The meeting reinforced the commitment of both nations to strengthening higher education partnerships. Moving forward, concrete actions will be explored to expand Erasmus+ participation, particularly by increasing awareness among Mexican institutions and facilitating access to funding opportunities for Mexican students and researchers.

César Eduardo Gutiérrez’s active role in these discussions underscores the importance of Erasmus+ as a key instrument for fostering international collaboration.
