On 12th June 2024, the Erasmus+ Info Session and CBHE Cluster Meeting was held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Kuala Lumpur, bringing together 80 representatives from nine states of Malaysia, specifically from the academic, government, and European Union communities to discuss and explore opportunities under the Erasmus+ programme, organized by the Erasmus+ National Focal Point (ENFP) for Malaysia, together with the EU Delegation to Malaysia,
The Erasmus+ Info Session started with the opening remarks delivered by Mr. Eero Oinonen, the Political Officer of the EU Delegation to Malaysia, Prof. Ts. Dr. Abd Latif bin Saleh, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UTM Kuala Lumpur, and Datin Noorazah binti Omar, Undersecretary of International Relations Division of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. The opening speeches highlighted the importance of international cooperation in higher education and the role of Erasmus+ in promoting mobility and partnerships between European and Malaysian institutions.
Following the opening remarks, Karolina Garbaliauskaite from EACEA provided a comprehensive presentation on the international dimensions of Erasmus+ Key Actions, including Capacity-building in Higher Education (CBHE), International Credit Mobility (ICM), Erasmus Mundus, and Jean Monnet. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Ariffin Abu Hassan, ENFP Malaysia, then shared insights into the national initiatives supporting Erasmus+ in Malaysia.
The second half of the session focused on practical applications of Erasmus+. Beneficiaries of Erasmus+ grants, Ms. Nabila Norizan and Mr. Ronald Willie Binati, shared their experiences with International Credit Mobility (ICM) and Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) programs. Karolina Garbaliauskaite then provided valuable tips on crafting successful project proposals for the Capacity-building in Higher Education (CBHE) action. The session concluded with presentations by Prof. Dr. Rosmini Omar (representative from ANGEL project) and Prof. Dr. Shahriman Zainal Abidin (representative from MAKING4.0 project), who showcased best practices for CBHE projects involving Malaysian Higher Education Institutions. The presentations were followed by an engaging Q&A session and concluding remarks.
The CBHE Cluster Meeting, which ran from 14:00 to 17:30, focused specifically on the Capacity-building in Higher Education (CBHE) action. Participants delved into the objectives and participation of Malaysia in CBHE, with representatives from successful closed projects highlighting best practices, challenges, and strategies for ensuring dissemination and sustainability. The event concluded with a lively discussion and Q&A session, where attendees exchanged ideas, shared experiences, and explored potential collaborations.
The Erasmus+ Info Session and CBHE Cluster Meeting attended by representatives from numerous Malaysian universities, proved to be a valuable gathering, offering insightful presentations on the program's various facets, including funding opportunities, project proposal development, and international collaboration avenues.
The event was a resounding success, providing valuable information and insights to the Malaysian higher education sector and fostering a deeper understanding of the opportunities available under the Erasmus+ program.
