Students selected for Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) and Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s programmes gathered in Uruguay in July for “Exchange for Change – Farewell to Erasmus+ ICM and Erasmus Mundus Master’s Students”, an event organised by the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (AUCI) in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to Uruguay.
The event gave the departing Erasmus+ students an opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss expectations, and learn more about the Erasmus+ community. It also offered practical encouragement as the students prepared for the academic, cultural and personal experiences that international mobility will bring.
The programme opened with remarks from Doerte Bosse, Head of Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union to Uruguay, and Luis Pereyra, Multilateral Cooperation Coordinator at AUCI. Both highlighted the value of academic mobility in strengthening international cooperation, building connections between institutions, and fostering long-term collaboration between Uruguay and Europe.
Students shared their motivations for applying to Erasmus+, reflected on their application journeys and discussed their expectations for studying abroad. The exchange gave participants an opportunity to learn from one another while preparing for the opportunities and challenges of living and studying in a new academic and cultural environment.
Among the selected students were Emilia Hernández, Santiago Rodríguez and Martín Clavijo, who will undertake Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Seville, Spain, beginning in September. Guliana Madero will join the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s in Archaeological Materials Science (ARCHMAT) for the 2025–2027 programme.
During the event, Alejandro Quinteros, Erasmus+ National Focal Point (ENFP) for Uruguay, outlined the information and outreach activities promoting Erasmus+ opportunities across the country. He also highlighted the close cooperation between AUCI and the Delegation of the European Union to Uruguay in supporting students and higher education institutions interested in participating in Erasmus+.
The farewell event illustrates the broader work of the Erasmus+ National Focal Point in Uruguay to raise awareness of Erasmus+ opportunities, provide guidance to prospective applicants and encourage greater participation by Uruguayan higher education institutions in the programme.
By bringing future Erasmus+ participants together before their departure, the event helped strengthen the Erasmus+ community in Uruguay and connected individual mobility experiences with the wider objective of deepening academic and institutional cooperation between Uruguay and Europe.
