Dr. Trovana Azeez, the newly appointed Erasmus+ National Focal Point for Guyana, is advancing new Erasmus+ mobility opportunities and international partnerships through her work at the University of Guyana.
The activities coordinated and reported by Dr. Azeez include cooperation with institutions in Iceland, Poland, and Romania. Together, these initiatives are creating mobility opportunities for students, education practitioners, and academic staff while strengthening the University’s links with European higher education institutions.
One of the initiatives involves four Early Childhood Education practitioners and two students participating in an Erasmus+ mobility programme with Reykjavík University in Iceland. The cooperation supports academic exchange, professional skills development, and the sharing of practices in early childhood education.
Dr. Azeez has also supported an Erasmus+ staff mobility for teaching between the University of Guyana and Bialystok University of Technology in Poland. The exchange involves a lecturer from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Department of Computer Studies, and focuses on sharing teaching approaches and developing academic cooperation between the two institutions.
Further mobility opportunities will be created through an Erasmus+ KA171 inter-institutional agreement with Dimitrie Cantemir University in Romania for the period 2026 – 2029. The agreement provides for reciprocal student and staff mobility in Geography, Earth Sciences, and Environmental Studies. It also establishes a foundation for future academic collaboration and possible joint research activities.
Alongside these Erasmus+ activities, Dr. Azeez is contributing to wider international cooperation at the University of Guyana. This includes an agreement with the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development to establish the University’s first Spanish Chair.
Beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year, the initiative will support the placement of Spanish lecturers and strengthen Spanish language and cultural studies. Cooperation with Instituto Cervantes is also expected to expand opportunities for language certification and curriculum development. While this initiative is separate from Erasmus+, it complements the broader objective of strengthening the University’s international engagement.
Through these activities, Dr. Azeez is helping connect students, academic staff, and education professionals in Guyana with European partners and international learning opportunities. Her work as ENFP also supports greater awareness of Erasmus+ and encourages Guyanese higher education institutions to explore mobility, partnership, and cooperation opportunities under the Programme.
Dr. Azeez serves as Senior Philanthropy Officer at the University of Guyana and has more than 15 years of experience across the public and private sectors. She holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Innovation, a Master of Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Communication Studies. Her professional experience includes higher education leadership, philanthropy, strategic communications, and international partnerships.
